ACADEMIC AND RESEARCH INTERESTS

Currently studying for a PhD in Sociology entitled:

Mums on Board: a feminist poststructural analysis of mothers who snowboarding.

MSc in Sociology of Sport- completed July 2003. The course was arranged as a modularised programme of study. The following areas of investigation were completed as part of the course:

1)      An investigation into the influence of the media in sport

2)      An examination of the significance of sport in the modern world

3)      A socio-historical analysis of the development of rugby union for women

4)      The use of hegemony theory in an examination of the development of women’s rugby

5)      An examination into the gender inequalities in sport from a figurational perspective

6)      Sport and disability – barriers to participation

My final dissertation focused on a sociological analysis of the development of skateboarding using both figurational and hegemony theories. This received a distinction grade.
